Acne Skincare and Shaving

When talking about acne skincare and shaving, one of the big things we need to discuss is those painful little bumps!

Folliculitis is the name for those little ingrown hairs that form from shaving. Sometimes they appear red and inflamed (called pseudofolliculitis), other times they turn into small whiteheads.

If you have thick or wiry beard growth, you may be more prone to getting Folliculitis. If you're not shaving properly, you may be causing more ingrown hairs than you planned!

Once they become infected with pus, it can make shaving very uncomfortable, and our goal is to clear them up by drying them out, and preventing them in the future!

Good news, when you shave your face each day, you're doing your own form of exfoliating your skin. It may not be enough for you though.

Acne is formed when debris, dirt and oil get trapped under the skin. When we exfoliate our skin, we help untrap those things by keeping our pores open and clear.

Use a simple foaming facial cleanser for your skin type. If you aren't sure what your skin type is, on the navigation bar on the left, click through to skin types.

You'll want to use an exfoliant 2-3 times a week if you're having a problem with folliculitis. Two times is usually enough, but if you have thick or tough skin near your beard growth area, you may want to do that section one more time.

Choose a moisturizer with sunblock in it for your last step. When your skin is treated well and healthy, it will be moist and fresh. These simple steps will have you on your way to clearing up your folliculitis, along with keeping your skin in tip top shape. Acne skincare and shaving don't have to go together. You can get that cleared up, and just get back to smooth shaving!
