Anti Aging Skincare Treatments

Let's take a look at some of those "other" anti aging skincare treatments. No one anti aging skincare treatment is for everyone. If you'd like more information on any of these topics, see your dermatologist for extra details.

This is a very basic run through of some of the other treatments that you may be curious about, have heard of, or may not really understand what they are, or what they do. Here are some brief explanations on topics like Retin-A, Restylane, Botox and Skin Resurfacing.

Let's start with Retinols. These products are a strong vitamin A cream, that were originally used to help with acne. They found that they can do some help with sun damage as well. If you're going to be using a product like Retin-A, check with your doctor on application instructions. Also, if you want your eyebrows waxed while using it, sorry, it's a no-no, it thins the skin too much. You'll have to stick with tweezing for now.

You may have heard of Restylane in recent years. Restylane is a gel which is a form of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in your skin. Restylane is injected into fine lines and wrinkles. Check with your doctor for possible reactions.

Botox is another injectable. This is directed into muscles, which cause a temporary weakness which transcends into a smoother looking appearance. I'm not a big fan of injecting something that weakens my muscles, but to each their own!

Chemical peels can be done on many different levels. At your local spa, you can get a mild peel, at your doctor you can get a stronger medium depth peel or laser resurfacing. Each one has it's own cautions. While resurfacing the top layers of your skin, there is recovery, and it's crucial you wear sunblock after each, or you'll do damage to the new skin.

If you're new to peels, try a gentle peel at your local spa with a trained skin care specialist. These are usually done in a series of six, so you'll go for 6 weeks in a row. You should never do too many peels in a row, or your skin will have trouble bouncing back. That's called your "Hayflick Limit". That's when your skin says "ENOUGH"!
