What Are Your Sensitive Skincare Needs?
So many people think they have sensitive skincare needs. Most people have caused their skin to become sensitized. I'd like to explain the difference to you. Sensitive skin is skin that is reactive. It's easily disturbed, but the question becomes is this a skin type or a skin condition? It can be both!

If you've been using the wrong skincare products, or over using skincare products such as exfoliant, you can sensitize your skin, causing it to react strongly. If you've sensitizes your skin, I have good news for you, you can undo the damage using the right skincare products for your skin, and learning a proper routine. If you have sensitive skin, it means that you didn't cause your skin to react, it just reacts naturally to harsh products. While it's labeled as a skin type by most skincare companies, when we look at your actual skin close up, we're looking for three basic skin types: normal, oily or dry. Wait a minute, where was sensitive on that list? What about combination? What about your special sensitive skincare needs? Don't panic, just keep reading! When analyzing skin, a skin care specialist looks at things such as pore size, tone and texture. Based on these factors, they will decide what products will work best for you. If while your skin is analyzed it's reactive to touch, and shows certain aspects, then sensitive skin care products (very mild, usually very low on preservative or fragrance, very mild pH factor) may be recommended to you. Do you see the difference? You may have dry skin, but it may be sensitive. You may have oily skin, but it may be sensitive. You may have sensitized it by using harsh products or overusing things like exfoliants. What about ethnic skincare needs? There are some things you need to consider if you have ethnic skin, but you'll still fall in one of the categories of skin types just like everybody else. With ethnic skincare, you'll want to watch out for harsh ingredients in exfoliants which may cause hyperpigmentation issues, or lightening ingredients which may cause hypopigmentation issues. Darker skin can be prone to scarring, so you'll want to use mild exfoliants, while Asian skin is generally very sensitive, so mild products overall may be a bonus for you. That is NOT a blanket statement, each person is an individual, and needs to treat their skin for their specific skin type and condition.
